I met Bob Kucera through a mutual friend. For those of you who don’t know him, he’s a former assistant police commissioner, member of State parliament, and is currently a board member of the Council of the Ageing. He’s got a great face with lots of character, and it was great to paint him. I did two paintings, one smiling and one not smiling. He and I both preferred the non-smiling Bob, but his family prefer the other.
Have A Go News did an article on the portrait: it is on page 17 of this PDF.
Alzheimer’s WA also did a lovely feature on it here.
I painted Olivia this week. Her face shows both her strength and some sadness she was experiencing at the time, so I really wanted my portrait to capture that. I took a series of reference photographs, and the one below really showed both aspects of her.

These are my latest paintings. Gwen and Bert are both what you would call ‘characters’, and I wanted to show this in the way I painted them. They have had pretty hard lives in many ways but they are proud of the independent people they’ve made of themselves.

Hi, I’m Annie and I’m a young artist offering portraits of your loved one so you have something special to keep forever, something that will show their soul in a special way.
On this blog I will be showing you the process I use to create my portraits.
